Strays and tags.

This Morning we had a visitor. When Gilday happened upon a medium sized dog running around the neighborhood this morning on his way to work, like the responsible guy his is, he stopped to see if the dog had tags. Well, the dog did, but they were just his rabies tags, with no phone number. Just the registration number and it said they were issued from Albany NY. Gilday manages to get the dog to our house, and puts the guy in our back yard. What do we do? It was a very cute dog. He looked like a retriever /pit mix and his coat was very soft. He didn’t look straggly. He looked well loved and very well taken care of. Ultimately we decided to let him go back outside so he could find his way back home. Gilday left for work and I called the Esopus dog control officer and left a message that there was a golden lab mix strolling through the neighborhood. The sucker I am, I also went outside and gave him some food & water. I then noticed a blue van driving very slowly down our street. It stopped in front of our house and a guy got out and called to the dog. Our little visitor forgot all about me and had a wonderful wagging tail reunion with his owner. Turns out the guy is staying with his grandmother down the street and his dog just loves to find ways out of the house, a dog version of Houdini, and investigates his new ‘hood. The guy said that it was the 4th time he’s gotten out in the week he’s been living there. I mentioned that he should maybe get a tag for him with a phone number to call so if the dog gets out again he’ll have a better chance of being found. Yeah, I’m the proverbial pot calling the kettle black. Does our Finnegan have tags? Nope. But this evening he will.

You know, I just realized that I never found out the dogs name. The guy kept on calling him "puppy" in his dog voice.
