Did anyone watch the eclipse last night? I was thinking that we’d have terrible visibility because a storm system was supposed to be closing in on us, but it was a beautiful clear evening. It was very cool to watch the shadow of the earth being cast upon the moons surface. We were thinking of jumping in the car and driving up to the ridge lookout on 44 to watch it, but the shot of patroné we had to warm us up between viewings told us otherwise. We really should have thought ahead! Anyway, it was an amazing thing to watch. I took some photos with the new camera, but I haven’t downloaded them yet to see how they came out.
The only negative to watching it was that our neighbor (some know her as the party crasher from Gilday’s 30th birthday party) “happened” to be walking over to let Lillian & John’s dogs out. She didn’t see Steve at all and just started talking to me. Steve can’t stand her so he slowly walked in between two of the cars unnoticed. I don’t know how he did it but every once and a while she would ask “Is Steve around? Didn’t he want to see the eclipse?”. Like a good wife, I told her that he was writing a paper for school, but would be out soon. She was pretty chatty with me and talked about how she loves being a mail carrier, how beautiful the moon was, (which was very familiar to the million times she said “this bonfire is so beautiful” at steve’s party). She did leave when the moon was completely in shadow so he could come back out of hiding. We used the opportunity to run inside to warm up a bit and then for steve to make his “real” appearance. Funny thing was that when we both came back out, she quickly decided to go back to her own place. Hey, maybe the dislike is mutual?
In other news, I had the best time last night making a calligraphy pen for my graduate class. I haven’t used it yet (tonight) but it looks like it actually might work!

update: Gilday and I are officially dunces. As I was talking to a co-worker about the eclipse, he goes "I bet it was cool to watch with your telescope." Sheila slaps herself in the head. Yeah... We have a telescope. Where was is? Upstairs in our attic, fully assembled, pointing at the floor...

I remembered that we had a telescope, but I just didn't want to go up to the attic to get it. In comparison, People at work, who are scientists, didn't go outside to watch it. They just watched it on the news. In comparison, I think we did just fine.
