My new VP gave her two week notice the other day. She’s been here a little over a year but now she’s off to the greener pastures of Florida to be near all her friends and family there. I really don’t blame her. She’s just too nice of a person to deal with the rest of the senior management crew here. I wish her luck and a sunny new life in the state that has its own fark tag.
When I heard the news, I sent an email to my original VP (who retired) and let her know the new development as I was sure that she’d get a kick out of it. With a prompt “omigosh” she emailed back, along with a request (ok, it was more of a plea) for help at a Fundraiser she was involved in with for the Dutchess County Historical society. Every year they host a Silver Ribbon House Tour where some of the more impressive homes in the Millbrook area open their doors and allow people to mill about and admire the historic architecture and grounds.
It seemed that they ran out of volunteers, and she was hoping that possibly Gilday and I might be able to chip in and help out for a few hours. What she needed was for us to be docents at one of the houses, and to make sure that people don’t steal/touch/photograph the property. We accept the task and we think it’s going to be a lot of fun. The stars must have aligned in my favor, because to my excitement, I found out the place we are to be stationed is called Shadow Lodge, and we’ll be in charge of the Carriage house on the property. It was once used as a stable but has been converted into a state of the art design studio by the estate’s owners. I’m freaking ecstatic to be able to hang out there for 4 hours and take it all in. I’ve studied this guy in college and I’m going to be giving tours in his studio. Sweet! Thinking of leaving my card and resume on his desk….
Anyway, when I mentioned to co-workers that I was going to be a docent this Saturday, you would not believe the people who had no idea what a docent was. At first I was shocked, but then realized that half the people who work in my building haven’t set foot outside the county, albeit a museum. Yeah, I really think I need to leave my card on his desk.
