Birthday recap

This weekend was wonderful. Maybe it’s the fact that I had lobster everyday, but I didn’t want to come back home Sunday. We were blessed with amazingly beautiful weather, and it seemed we were always at the right time place at the right time for some of the things we wanted to do. It really was truly magical how everything just worked in our favor.

After a wonderful lobster dinner on Friday, Gilday had arranged for a full fireworks display in the town of Oaks Bluff to end the night. It must have been a lot of stamps and follow up on his part to make sure that all those people showed up to celebrate with me, but he pulled it off without a hitch.

Saturday we did some sightseeing before checking in with our sunset sail with Black Dog Tall Ships, and boy did we see some sights. As we visited Aquinnah to see the famous cliffs, we found out through my trusty zoom lens that the supposed nude beach did in fact exist. It must have been senior citizen day because what we saw was scary. Then it was off to lunch at our new favorite place, Edgartown. It totally won me over with its breathtaking views, energetic harbor, and very walkable streets. It was amazing how relaxed we immediately felt after we got off the bus (Yes, we used mass transit) and started to walk down to the water. Next time we holiday in the 'vineyard, we’re definitely staying in that town. The Tall Ship sail was a lot of fun, and had I paid attention to my husband, I would have known we could bring a nice bottle of wine on board. Probably for the best as it took me a bit to get my sea legs, I can only imagine if I had a glass of wine. Sunday led to a lite breakfast at our B&B and more island investigation until our ferry departure at 2:30. Good times.

Things I learned from my birthday weekend:

  1. Gilday knows how to wine & dine a lady.
  2. Families with young children from Long Island are miserable people.
  3. Avoid the guy smoking a pipe on the roof of your B&B. He’ll talk your ear off for hours.
  4. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
  5. Some people need to get over themselves.
  6. The pop collar is still not cool.
  7. Mass Pike on a Sunday = mayhem.
  8. Who my real friends are. Thanks for the txts and phone calls.
  9. There is nothing wrong with having lobster everyday.
  10. Night photography is spectacular and fun.
  11. Ferries are nothing to be afraid of. Especially when there are dogs on them with you.
  12. Trust in gas stations. They'll pop up when you need them.
  13. Our house will have cedar siding with light blue and white trim.
  14. Finnegan is everywhere.
  15. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Sounds like you had a great birthday. I've got one coming up soon and only hope it's half as good as yours.
