Cheer Up Charlie

I know life was rough for you in Brooklyn. When your friends hear that you have “moved to a farm in the country” they can rest assured that you actually did, and not suffer the fate the dismal phrase has become. Gone are the concrete floors, the bustling street noises, sounds from above and below your feet and the grey diesel smell of the constricting city air. You are now a country fellow, able to deeply inhale the beautiful fresh and clean air, listen to the audible sounds of the forest, and revel in the warm wood floors and cozy rugs that await your stay.

You showed up Tuesday night, with all your worldly belongings slung over your (Lil’s) shoulder like a hobo’s sack to take up your new residence in the brown (soon to be sage) house. I can imagine how overwhelmed you must have felt when you noticed not one, but three uniquely different stoves that graced the kitchen area of your new surroundings. You are not alone on that one Charlie, we all were.

It also was so nice of you Charlie, to dress for the occasion, choosing a black suit with the appropriate white accents to match the other male four legged member of the household. With that expression of your amazing attention to detail, you are sure to fit right in.

Had we received prior notice to your early arrival, we would have arranged for a more comfortable and appropriate accommodation for your first night, instead of boxes and piles outdoor gear in which you made your bed. We also apologize that you had to spend your Wednesday imprisoned behind the padded mattress wall while listening to the ghost music from John’s dusty jukebox, while hearing your name being called just beyond your hampered mattress vision. You must have been really happy when we finally found you and you were able to visit with, not two, but three members of your new household. We’ve temporarily fixed the situation and will be working diligently to remedy the problem for the future.

In the coming days, you will be meeting the other members of the clique that is the brown (soon to be sage) house, though they may be a bit intimidating at first. But don’t worry too much Charlie. One of them hardly notices a treat being tossed to her let alone another creature in the room and the other, well, he doesn’t nibble too hard.

I believe that your new career was adequately discussed in detail by your direct supervisor prior to your taking residence, and that you will fulfill the position with the skill and prowess of the hunter that your resume claimed. Your visual demonstration with the moth last night was very impressive and we hope that you will have a long and lucrative position here with us.

Here's to the hope that with time we'll all be acclimated to the new situation, and all that is left is a bright and happy future for all of us!
