not just another cat blog

Introducing Charlie to the dogs has been interesting. I assure you, tons of research has been conducted to achieve the best results possible in a less than stressful way toward all furry animals (even Gilday).

We started by allowing Charlie to roam about our floor of the house while Finn & Riley were outside enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been having. This way Charlie’s scent will get mingled with the dogs, and both species gets used to the other in a non-aggressive or confrontational way. We then moved to having the dogs in the bedroom with the ever so scary baby gate blocking their entry into the living room with Charlie roaming about throughout the rest of the apartment. Surprisingly the dogs were chill, and were content to lie just before the door jamb to watch his antics. And, there were many.

We’re now in the process of upgrading to some meet and greets. We started with Riley, being that she’s a lot smaller and seemingly more easy going toward other animals. The first time went well, as Riley was more interested in Charlie’s food than anything else. The second time was last night, and it seemed that she was a bit more aware of Charlie as a cat. Charlie raised his paw at her (no claws-good sign), gave a warning growl but did not run away. Riley, we think, is still trying to figure him out. A few more of these and we think they’ll be friends. Finnegan’s first meet and greet is tonight and I really don’t foresee a problem, being how well behaved he is.

Soon Charlie, you’ll be a member of the brown (1/4 sage) household! Patience is a virtue.
