love and hate relationship

I'm a creative person. I love to learn new ways to do things, and new types of fine art disciplines. (My next fine art class has to be Glass Making - how cool would that be). And, generally I excel at whatever I chose to learn. Yeah, it sounds conceited and arrogant, but it's true.

I'm currently taking a silk screening class and its very time consuming and VERY detail oriented. We're learning the process of photo-emulsion exposure and I'm using the sun to expose my screens for its natural UV rays. For my current assignment we are learning different ways to expose the screens, and the use of different materials to create a stencil on the screen to print with. There is a method where you print out your stencils on white paper and then work vegetable oil in to make the white paper translucent. It just leaves the black image to block the light. I've tried this 3 times already and it's still not working. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I've done the exposure on acetate and had no problems. It's this paper method that is screwing with me.

I absolutely hate the fact that I'm not a natural at this. I absolutely hate the fact that I have to do things over and over because I'm just not doing it correctly and it's just not working for me.

Yes, I realize that I'm impatient. Yes, I realize that I'm still learning this art form. Yes, I realize that I'm whining. I just need to suck it up and deal.

Silk screening isn't always as intuitive as one might think-- we did it in my graphic arts class in high school. Fun but a LOT of work!
