Savages

When I heard on Friday about the 30 something year old Walmart worker being knocked over and trampled to death in Long Island, I was astounded. This poor man was simply opening the doors for early 5 am shoppers, and in the hectic frenzy of discount mania, those antsy shoppers knocked him down, and killed him. People just ignored the fact that a person was pushed over, and shoppers were walking on his body to get into the store. They then had the audacity to complain that the store had to be closed while the police and response workers tended to the scene.

It boggles my mind that in this day and age, with terrorist attacks, an unstable economic future, and everything else that is going on in the world, people would turn into savages for a good deal on a blue ray disk, or a festive looking can of old popcorn. It wasn’t even like they were giving away 1 million of dollars to the first one hundred people to enter the store. These people were just out for a good deal on Tupperware or bed sheets. Apparently, people really needed those half priced screwdriver sets.

And what’s worse, in this senseless murder, the people who caused it aren’t going to be held accountable. They get off with their “rolled back” ipods and brats dolls. It makes me wonder if they can prosecute people from the video surveillance tape. It’s a sad day when materialism trumps a human life.

I’m totally thinking that this is the face of things to come….
