Lobsterfest itself was fun. We dined on fresh lobster, whole and roll style, which set the stage for a lobster eating theme weekend. One of the activities they had at the fest was to tour an active duty aircraft carrier, the Nassau. The size and scale of the ship was amazing. We got to tour the medical quarters, the flight deck and see the quarters of some of the guys that work on the ship. The personal space they had was tiny, and in my opinion, smelled like @ss. I originally wasn’t too excited about touring it, but once you get inside, and experience the shear size of it, you can’t help but be impressed.

The next day led to a breakfast of lobster omelets (yum), a walk to Owls Head Light house, ice cream, summit of Mt. Batty in the Camden Hills State park and an early dinner at the 3 dog café. We kept the local seafood theme going with paul having a generous serving of lobster bisque while I dined on fresh crab meat sandwich. After dinner, the family Rags decided to head home for the evening, so the leftover lot of us checked out an adventure store near Camden, and then settled back to our campground for a nice welcoming campfire, complete with cigars and Port. This, of course, led to a queasy start for some of us on Sunday morning.
We met up with the Rag’s at a cute little restaurant in Rockland that morning, had some much needed breakfast and said our goodbyes. It was a great trip, catching up with the new family and exploring the town that is now their home. But, we did lack one thing. Lobster Ice Cream. Next time we visit Maine, we’re not leaving without having it!
