Stop calling him a Canoer. He's a Kayaker!

Being a kayaker, I’m naturally interested in any type of news that befalls the sport. Recently in the news there has been a story about a married guy in England who disappeared 5 years ago after a morning kayaking trip on very calm waters. They found his battered boat the next day, and after an extensive search, declared him deceased after a year. Just the other day the guy walks into a police station and says that he thinks he might be a missing person. They find out that he is indeed the guy who went missing 5 years ago and release him to his sons.

His wife, however, recently sold their 2 homes (furnished), collected his life insurance policy and moved to Panama just 6 weeks ago. When she was told about her husband turning up, she was happy, but didn’t pop a flight back to the UK. She said that she had to sort out some things with her visa, and wait for furniture to arrive that she had shipped from her old house. She as happy he was back and had intentions to see him soon.

Now, this is all well and good, but the police just turned up a photo on a real estate agents website in panama with a nice photo of the wife and the “missing” husband that was taken a year ago. Now, said husband was supposed to be dead. What the F is he doing smiling for a camera a year ago in Panama? With her?

Obviously it’s some sort of scam that went wrong. They probably faked his death to collect on his insurance, and then he hid out in panama while his wife took care of the loose ends. Everything was probably going well but then perhaps they got into some sort of argument and she was going to screw him over somehow. So, he goes back to the UK and magically “appears” to squash her plans.

I ask this. How did he get back to the UK? If he flew, how did he manage to get from Panama to the UK without being flagged with his passport? In the age of the No Fly List, how could he board the plane? Why is jail a better place to be than in Panama working out whatever problems his wife and he had? Can his wife be extradited from panama to the UK?

I'm interested to see what the ending will be....
